Promotional Products Sales Professionals Forget Cold Calls! Do This Instead…

I don’t know about you, but I hate making cold calls. They just don’t work in today’s new economy. Voice mail, Caller ID and well trained gatekeepers are all converging to keep you out.

Besides, it can take 50 or more cold calls to get 1  appointment and the chance of that one appointment resulting in a sale isn’t very good.

What ‘s the alternative ?

Last week, I hosted a teleconference where I shared 7 + Proven Strategies That Every Promotional Products Sales Professionals Needs to Know to Sell More ( Without Ever Making a Cold Call!)

Here’s just one of the strategies that I shared:

Become a public speaker.  The more you speak, the more you’ll sell.

Oh, you think , “I’d rather die than speak in front of an audience!”

Well, although this strategy isn’t for everyone, here are a few ways around that panicky feeling.

 1. Be part of a panel of speakers on the topic of marketing. Being front and center with a group is a lot less threatening than speaking to an audience alone.  Look for related businesses to share the spotlight with such as: meeting planners,  graphic designers and trade show display companies.

 2. Share case histories.  Sharing true stories of how you’ve helped your clients is so much easier than memorizing a speech.  While you’re at, unless you’re a graphics expert, ditch the Power Point. People will be a lot more interested in what you have to say, than a bunch of boring slides. Bring fun giveaways  with your company logo to distribute to the audience. It’s a great way to get people to remember you and what you do.

 3. Get the audience engaged in your topic. Have them describe  their favorite promotional item. Better yet, have them pull out a promotional item in their pocket or briefcase.

Why does public speaking work so well to generate new business?  When you speak in front of audience you’re remembered and you’re perceived as an expert.  People want to do business with experts.

Where can you speak? Chambers of Commerce, networking groups and service clubs are always looking for speakers.

My #1 Sales Strategy

By Rosalie Marcus
http://www.promobizcoach.com

If you’re anything like I am, some days you feel chained to your computer and your desk!
There just seems to be a never ending stream of emails to answer and phone calls to catch up on.

That’s why, this week, I vowed to make personal visits to my clients.

What a pleasure to be away from my office and relaxing over a delicious lunch at a downtown Philly French Bistro.

Here’s the lesson I learned.

Nothing beats personal contact for getting new business.

Why? Personal contact increases the know, like and trust factor. It gives you an opportunity to relate and get details that would be missed through emails, phone calls and other non face-to-face communication.

As a result of my meetings, I have many new opportunities that would not have been open to me if I didn’t show up.

As and added bonus, the manager of the restaurant where I was dinning this week is going to become a client.

Not only that, my client introduced me to new people in her office who have potential for much new business.

It’s amazing what’s happens when you show up! You can be sure I’ll be doing more of this in the coming months. How are you showing up? Do you make time to visit your prospects and clients on a regular basis?

Here’s my request for you this week. Contact your top clients and prospects tell them you’d like to share some new ideas with them to drive more business their way.  Set up as many appointments as possible and let me know what happens.

One more thing: What’s working for you? What’s your # 1 sales strategy? I would love to get your thoughts. Just hit the comments button below.

Niche to Be Rich

I don’t have to tell you how competitive promotional products sales are these days. If you’re ready to stand out and attract more and better business, developing niche market expertise makes sense.

Your clients want to do business with experts. Specialists earn more than generalists in every industry. Concentrating your selling efforts on one or more niche markets can dramatically increase your sales and income. Plus, you’ll enjoy your work more.

Use These Guidelines to Find Your Perfect Niche:

– Pick an industry or area of specialization that you’re familiar with and would enjoy.

 - Look for industries and areas of specialization that have large budgets for promotional items.

–Look for industries that are growing.

- Define your niche by the types of programs you specialize in creating such as: safety programs, client retention programs, awards and gifts.

- Define your niche by the type of service you provide such as: fast turnaround, company stores or event planning.

- Define your niche by the geographic markets you serve such as: New York City, global markets, resorts.

- Define your niche by the types of companies you serve: such as financial, healthcare, and education.

- Define your niche by the causes you believe in such as: environmentally friendly products.

 – Define your niche by the products you most like to sell such as: apparel or writing instruments.

One thing to keep in mind, having a niche does not mean you will not sell outside of your niche market. This just means this is where you will primarily focus your time and marketing energy.
